Raft is a consensus algorithm designed to be more understandable than Paxos, used for achieving agreement in distributed systems. It operates with a leader-follower model, where a leader manages log replication to followers, ensuring consistency. For example, Raft might be used in etcd to maintain cluster state. Raft handles leader election, log replication, and fault tolerance, making it easier to implement while still ensuring reliability in distributed environments.
