3461. Check If Digits Are Equal in String After Operations I
Problem Explanation
Explanation
To solve this problem, we can repeatedly perform the specified operation on the given string s until it has exactly two digits left. We calculate the new digit by taking the sum of two consecutive digits modulo 10. We update the string s with the newly calculated digits after each operation.
After performing the operations, we check if the final two digits in the updated string s are equal. If they are equal, we return true; otherwise, we return false.
The time complexity of this solution is O(n) where n is the length of the input string s. The space complexity is O(n) as well since we are using a string to store the digits.
Solution Code
class Solution {
public boolean digitsAreEqual(String s) {
while(s.length() > 2) {
StringBuilder sb = new StringBuilder();
for(int i = 0; i < s.length() - 1; i++) {
int digit1 = s.charAt(i) - '0';
int digit2 = s.charAt(i + 1) - '0';
int newDigit = (digit1 + digit2) % 10;
sb.append(newDigit);
}
s = sb.toString();
}
return s.charAt(0) == s.charAt(1);
}
